Job Overview

Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is in search of an Electrical Control Panel Technician to join our dynamic production team. This role involves the assembly of power distribution systems, motor control centers, and various control systems tailored for the marine sector. Ideal candidates will possess a solid background in electrical work, preferably within a manufacturing or assembly context. You will have the opportunity to work autonomously or collaboratively, interpreting schematics and technical drawings to construct these essential systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Construct electrical panels, including control panels (PLC, SMPS, HMIs, etc.), motor control consoles, and junction boxes.
  • Interpret verbal instructions, wiring diagrams, and manufacturing specifications to execute tasks effectively.
  • Wire components within electrical panels and enclosures.
  • Assemble enclosures, which includes laying out back panels, wiring, labeling, and component assembly.
  • Perform point-to-point wiring and install a diverse range of electronic and electromechanical components.
  • Utilize hand tools such as wire strippers, crimpers, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and soldering irons.
  • Fabricate controls according to specifications, including the layout and physical mounting of components, wiring, and installation of control panels onto equipment.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, and other components.
  • Execute panel-to-panel wiring.
  • Employ various tools and equipment, including measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment like oscilloscopes and ammeters.
  • Identify defective components and discrepancies in drawings, promptly notifying supervisors for corrective measures.
  • Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit using appropriate instruments and hand tools.
  • Drill holes and route wiring through openings using hand and power tools.
  • Strip insulation from wire ends and prepare wires for soldering.
  • Thread conduit ends, connect couplings, and fabricate support brackets using hand tools.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Conduct final inspections of wiring, terminations, and component installations within control panels.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in electrical or manufacturing assembly is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and 3D assembly drawings.
  • Must be a collaborative team player, self-motivated, and possess strong problem-solving skills.
  • Capability to work independently while also thriving in a team environment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check is required.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with bus bar systems is preferred, along with a foundational understanding of their application.
  • Familiarity with US Marine Electrical Codes and Standards.
  • Soldering experience is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity is essential for assembling products or machinery as required.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination is necessary.
  • Capability to distinguish between colored wires, tabs, and electronic components.
  • Compliance with PPE requirements, including gloves and safety glasses.
