We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transportation Worker I to join our team at the State of North Carolina. As a key member of our Highway Maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our highway systems.
Key Responsibilities- Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including tractors, dump trucks, and rollers, to perform maintenance and repair tasks on highways and roadside features.
- Perform manual labor tasks, such as flagging, inspecting, and ensuring work zone safety.
- Assist with snow and ice removal, vegetation control, and debris removal.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and small equipment, such as chainsaws, weed eaters, and drills.
- Participate in the installation and maintenance of highway signs, pavement markings, and other traffic control devices.
- High school education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain within 360 days of hire.
- Experience operating heavy equipment and performing manual labor tasks.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
