Forest Genetics Expert Intern

At PRT, we're passionate about cultivating a sustainable future through innovative forestry practices. As a Forest Genetics Expert Intern, you'll play a vital role in supporting our Genetic Services department's day-to-day operations.

• Contribute to the planning and implementation of orchard/nursery management activities, maintaining accurate records
• Participate in site preparation and application of fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides
• Support tree improvement research activities, including data collection and analysis
• Operate and maintain orchard equipment, such as tractors, forklifts, aerial boom lifts, UTVs, chainsaws, and power tools
• Maintain service records and ensure good housekeeping of orchard/nursery facilities

You'll be part of a dynamic team of Orchard Specialists, reporting directly to the Eastern Seed Orchard Manager. Our Forest Services Team is led by the VP Production Southeast & Forest Genetic Services.

• Current enrollment in ongoing education under the Forestry and Natural Resources umbrella
• Familiarity with current silvicultural techniques, including site preparation and herbicide applications
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with staff and external parties
• Valid Driver's License
• Intermediate-level skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
• Familiarity with farm equipment and tractors is an asset

We offer a competitive salary range of $45,000 - $60,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus benefits that include:
