Job Title: Bus Driver

At Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency, we are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Bus Driver to transport participants to and from our activity center and drive bus for outings and field trips. As a key member of our team, you will ensure the safe transportation of children and adhere to our agency's transportation policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive safely with participants' well-being uppermost;
  • Ensure a bus aide is aboard on all transportation runs;
  • Ensure children are received by a parent or another responsible person as designated by the parent;
  • Ensure there is an adult with children at all times, no child is to be left unattended at any time;
  • Notify supervisor in advance if unable to drive;
  • Maintain accurate records regarding the daily transportation of children and the daily operation of the bus including daily pre-trip inspections;
  • Report any mechanical or driving problems to the supervisor;
  • Maintain the bus, including but not limited to: oil changes, lubrication, transmission fluid changes, and cleaning inside and out;
  • Ensure children are secure in child safety restraints;
  • Operate bus in a safe, prudent, and legal manner;
  • Attend all required trainings;
  • Complete the transportation attendance form daily;
  • Walk through the bus at end of route to ensure no children remain on bus;
  • Pick up assigned bus at the beginning of the program year, and deliver the bus back to the assigned station at the end of the program year, as directed;
  • Comply with random drug testing procedures;
  • Notify supervisor immediately of any moving traffic violation;
  • Be familiar with and adhere to NEMCSA Head Start Transportation Policies and Procedures;
  • Work in cooperation with parents and other program staff to meet all program requirements.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma / GED and 1 to 3 years experience driving a commercial vehicle preferred;
  • Valid Michigan Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a P and S endorsement;
  • Personal driving record with not more than 6 active points as determined by the Department of State.
