  • An academic record that meets the criteria for tenure in the College of Public Health.
  • Employment as a registered nurse in a healthcare service organization, government agency, professional organization, or academic setting.
  • Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) participating state.
  • Experience mentoring and/or teaching nursing students and other nurses, with a focus on developing their skills and knowledge.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced Nursing Practice: Deep understanding of nursing theories, principles, and practices, with a focus on specialized knowledge in a specialty area of nursing practice.
  • Research Methods: Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies pertinent to the nursing field, with a focus on statistics, data analysis, and evidence-based practice.
  • Education Techniques: Familiarity with curriculum development, pedagogical theories, and teaching strategies specific to higher education and nursing education.
  • Teaching: Ability to effectively impart knowledge, facilitate learning, and assess student performance in a variety of course formats.
  • Research: Skills in designing, conducting, and analyzing research studies, with a focus on grant writing and publishing research findings in reputable journals.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with students, colleagues, and the wider academic and healthcare communities.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Capacity to lead projects and work collaboratively with other faculty members, as well as participate in committees and contribute to the academic community.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt teaching methods to different learning styles and environments, including online platforms.
  • Critical Thinking: Capability to engage in reflective and analytical thinking, crucial for both teaching and research.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to address academic and administrative problems that may arise in managing research, courses, and programs within the school.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Postdoctoral training or academic teaching experience as an adjunct or full-time faculty member.
  • Experience writing academic research grant proposals, with a focus on securing funding for research projects.
  • Expertise in acute care, medical/surgical, and psych/mental health nursing, with a focus on advancing nursing practice and healthcare outcomes.
