We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Ophthalmic Assistant Certified II to join our team at SSM Health. As a key member of our eye care team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Assist Eye Care Providers: Collaborate with our eye care providers to deliver high-quality patient care, including assisting with exams, treatments, and procedures.
- Document Patient Information: Accurately document patient information, including chief complaints, histories, and ocular findings.
- Perform Testing and Procedures: Conduct various tests and procedures, such as visual acuity measurements, color vision testing, and tonometry, as requested by our eye care providers.
- Provide Patient Education: Educate patients on their conditions, treatments, and follow-up care, under the direction of our eye care providers.
- Assist with Surgical Procedures: Assist with surgical procedures and laser treatments, including lesion removals, oculoplastic procedures, and corneal crosslinking.
- Participate in Emergency Patient Work-Ups: Participate in emergency patient work-ups for sight-threatening conditions, such as retinal detachment.
- Maintain Surgical Instruments: Inventory and maintain surgical instruments in accordance with system and department standards.
- Complete Prescription Refills: Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by our eye care providers, with full documentation in the patient chart.
- Screen Patients and Respond to Emergencies: Screen patients and respond to emergency situations, obtaining pertinent information for our eye care providers.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent, or 10 years of work experience.
- Experience: One year of healthcare experience.
- Standing and Walking: Constant standing and walking.
- Hearing and Speech: Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
- Lifting and Carrying: Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Reaching and Gripping: Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry.
- Vision: Frequent use of vision for distances near and far, and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Bending and Stooping: Occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Lifting and Moving Patients: Occasional lifting and moving of patients.
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA): International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO) or Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
