Position Overview:
Under the general oversight of the Shop Foreman, the Mechanic for Road and Bridge is tasked with the upkeep and repair of specialized machinery and vehicles. This role also involves the design and fabrication of custom components, alongside providing roadside and emergency support.

Key Responsibilities:
This position extends operational assistance to the Road, Bridge, and Junk Vehicle Department while performing a variety of additional duties as required. The Mechanic will report directly to the Shop Foreman and will not have supervisory responsibilities over other County personnel.

Required Skills and Knowledge:
The ideal candidate will possess expertise in specialized electronic and mechanical diagnostics and repairs, heavy equipment operation, machine tool usage, fabrication techniques, and an understanding of industrial materials and vehicle specifications. The ability to maintain safety protocols, work efficiently under challenging site conditions, and coordinate tasks with team members is essential.

Qualifications:
The necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically obtained through a combination of education and experience equivalent to two years of post-secondary education or formal training, coupled with three years of relevant experience in gasoline/diesel mechanics, machine tool operation, electronics, heavy equipment handling, or a related technical field.

Licensing Requirements:
Candidates must hold a valid driver's license issued by the state of Montana or be able to obtain one within six months of employment. They must also be insurable under the County's liability policies.

Training and Certifications:
Mechanics are required to complete the following training and certifications within six months of hire: First Aid/CPR, Wildland Fire Training, Work Zone Safety Training, and MSHA-46 (Miner) Certification. Additionally, a Class A CDL, Type 1 driver's license with air brakes and Tanker endorsement is required, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.
