Responsibilities

A typical day for a Patient Monitoring Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

1. Performing administrative tasks related to patient admissions, discharges, and documentation while effectively prioritizing and organizing work based on the department's evolving needs.

2. Welcoming patients and their families, assisting them with necessary forms and paperwork.

3. Completing admission and discharge documentation and managing file processing.

4. Building a rapport and cooperative relationship with nursing and clinical staff, responding to inquiries and requests from healthcare providers.

5. Organizing and maintaining medical records appropriately.

6. Answering phones and call bells, ensuring clear communication when relaying information from other units, physicians, and guests.

7. Protecting sensitive medical information and adhering to strict confidentiality protocols regarding patient, clinician, employee, and visitor data.

8. Monitoring and interpreting patients' heart rhythms, documenting findings in patient records according to departmental standards, and communicating any changes in patient rhythm clearly to unit personnel.

9. Upholding confidentiality concerning information related to patients, clinicians, employees, and visitors.

10. Completing various tasks as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the department.

Qualifications

- High School Diploma or General Equivalent Diploma is required.

- Successful completion of the Hackensack Meridian Health Monitor Technician Exam is mandatory.

- Previous experience as a Nursing Unit Secretary in a hospital setting is highly preferred.

- Current and active experience as a Patient Monitoring Technician is strongly desired.

- BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required.

- Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology of the heart is strongly preferred.

- Proficiency in computer skills, order entry, basic Microsoft Office, and excellent communication skills are essential.

- A passion for working with patients and their families is a must.

- Flexibility and the ability to quickly adapt to changes in patient census are crucial. Candidates must take responsibility for accuracy and response times to both urgent and non-urgent requests.
