2. Engages in non-emergency EMS responsibilities alongside on-duty paramedics.
  • Completes shift-to-shift communication effectively.
  • Ensures ambulances are refueled and cleaned after night transfers.
  • Maintains ambulances in a clean and orderly condition, complying with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Prepares ambulances used during the day for the next shift by cleaning and restocking.
  • Conducts routine checks on ambulances, restocking and cleaning interiors as necessary.
  • Verifies that all equipment is ready for the next assignment.
  • Decontaminates the vehicle's interior after transporting patients with infectious conditions or hazardous material exposure.
  • Restocks and replaces used linens, blankets, and supplies, ensuring all equipment is cleaned following proper disinfecting procedures.
  • Takes ambulances for maintenance as required.
  • Performs Lifeline services as necessary.
  • Cleans the duty office and disposes of trash at the end of the shift.
  • Undertakes additional tasks as assigned by the EMS director.
3. Assists within the emergency department.
  • Reports to the Emergency Department Nurse upon completion of EMS duties.
  • Provides basic patient care in accordance with EMT certification, including but not limited to:
    • Patient triage and documentation.
    • Conducting 12-lead EKGs.
    • Assisting with medical procedures.
    • Responding to call lights and aiding patients as necessary.
    • Restocking medical supplies.
    • Monitoring patients one-on-one as required (mental health/safety).
    • Supporting the healthcare team as needed.
    • Participating in patient rounds.
4. Promotes and safeguards patient and staff safety in all responsibilities.
  • Administers medications, treatments, and procedures promptly and safely according to physician orders and nursing policies, including adherence to standard precautions, using two patient identifiers, and conducting patient risk assessments each shift.
  • Utilizes appropriate body mechanics and transfer/lifting techniques to minimize fall risks for patients and prevent personal injury.
  • Implements National Patient Safety Goals to enhance patient safety.
  • Adopts infection control measures as necessary, including isolation protocols and proper hand hygiene.
  • Follows established procedures for the disposal of narcotics and hazardous materials.
5. Adheres to state and federal regulatory requirements related to Shenandoah Medical Center's operations and compliance program.
  • Upholds Shenandoah Medical Center's Mission, Vision, and Values, which are accessible throughout the organization.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations to maintain the confidentiality of patient and organizational records.
  • Follows the Corporate Compliance Policy diligently.
  • Adheres to all Safety and Infection Control Procedures, including annual training on various safety topics.
  • Considers the implications of regulations such as Critical Access Hospital requirements and discusses compliance concerns appropriately.
6. Performs additional duties as assigned.
