Position Overview:
As a vital member of the Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, the Hospice Aide plays a crucial role in delivering essential personal care to individuals facing terminal illnesses. Under the guidance of the Clinical Manager or their designated representative, the Hospice Aide ensures the comfort and dignity of patients in various environments.

Key Responsibilities:
The Hospice Aide is responsible for:

  • Providing hands-on personal care tailored to the needs of patients.
  • Assisting with basic procedures as directed by nursing or therapy staff.
  • Supporting patients in mobility and exercise routines.
  • Helping with the administration of medications that patients can typically manage themselves.

It is imperative to communicate any changes in the patient's health status or needs to a registered nurse, ensuring that care aligns with the established plan and quality improvement initiatives. Additionally, the Hospice Aide is expected to maintain accurate records in accordance with organizational policies.

Family Support:
Part of the role includes educating family members or caregivers on effective techniques to assist with the personal care of the patient, fostering a supportive environment.

Training and Development:
To maintain high standards of care, the Hospice Aide must complete a minimum of twelve (12) hours of relevant training annually and participate in team meetings as required.

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess:

  • A current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in Florida.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • AIDS 104 certification.
  • A valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record.

Experience:
Preferred candidates will have:

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • At least six (6) months of experience in home care, hospital, or long-term care settings.
  • Experience in providing care for terminally ill patients is highly desirable.
