Operating Engineer

Position Summary:
Loyola University Chicago is seeking an experienced Operating Engineer to join our facilities team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of our campus buildings' mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain HVAC equipment, including air compressors, ice/refrigeration equipment, chillers, hot water boilers, and low-pressure steam boilers.
- Assist in the operation of elevators, fire suppression systems, and building automation systems.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning and lubricating equipment, and replacing filters and belts.
- Respond to emergency situations, such as equipment failures or system malfunctions.
- Collaborate with other facilities staff to ensure smooth operation of campus facilities.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus three years of experience in mechanical systems operation and maintenance.
- City of Chicago Stationary Engineer License.
- Ability to read and interpret MEPFP as-built drawings.
- Ability to use tools of the trade.
- Ability to work in high and/or confined spaces.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Membership in the IUOE, Local 399.
- Proficiency in the operation of building automation systems.
- Advanced user of Microsoft Office software.
- Advanced user of computerized maintenance management software.
