Job Summary:

ATC White Plains is seeking a skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team. As an Ultrasound Technologist, you will be responsible for performing routine and special procedure imaging, diagnostic and medical sonograms. You will prepare patients for procedures, assist radiologists when needed, and prepare, operate and care for the equipment being used. You will also develop and process films when needed, adhere to established radiology standards of care, and obtain appropriate continuing education. Additionally, you will assume responsibility for assigned areas and duties, adhere to hospital-wide customer service programs, and perform other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand and adhere to performance standards, policies, and behaviors.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
  • Prepare and position patients correctly for specific examinations, observing different and special requirements for each protocol, including proper documentation on images and required body part questionnaires.
  • Assume responsibilities for designated areas and/or procedures and produce good technical images.
  • Assist physicians during procedures as necessary.
  • Perform equipment quality assurance and calibrations as needed, order supplies.
  • Will be required to work in case of emergency procedures or when situations arise in the department. Will be needed to work on call, holidays, overtime, and/or day, evening, and overnight shift coverage to help maintain adequate and safe coverage for the department.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all work areas, equipment, and accessories. Report all malfunctioning equipment to Bio Med and/or supervisor.
  • Process CDs or print pictures if needed.
  • Perform routine office duties, such as answering phones, checking previous reports/images, document information on patients' requests, Meditech or hospital RIS system, and PAC's digital x-ray system.
  • Notify transport when patients are ready to be picked up or returned to floors.
  • Show radiologists all images and call reports to the attending physician and document communication if necessary.
  • May be assigned as an instructor or preceptor.
  • Treat all people/staff in a professional and courteous manner, upholding the hospital's behavioral standards.
  • Introduce him/her and educate the patient and/or family member regarding the examination that is ordered.
  • Be knowledgeable and skillful in providing care, based on age, physical, and psychosocial stature of patient populations; neonate/newborn, pediatric/adolescent, adults, and geriatric groups.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
  • Duties and hours may change according to the needs of the department or hospital.

Requirements:

Completion of a certified ultrasound program or limited permit/certificate. ARDMS required for ACR accreditation compliance after January 1, 2019, or ARRT(s) or RT (VS) experience preferred. Must meet continuing education requirements to maintain certification. BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required or must be completed within 90 days of hire.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements and Work Environment:

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about the department to access patients and paperwork. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery. The person in this position frequently communicates with patients who have questions about their bills/financial obligations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Must be able to observe and inspect employees and patients in the department. Frequently move and position patients for exams. May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS database can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
