This role is essential to a high-performing team, focusing on federal and state income tax compliance for Nelnet and its numerous joint ventures.

Responsibilities include preparing federal and state income tax returns and supporting documentation, as well as assisting with international tax compliance initiatives. Provide support during tax examinations and correspondence, conduct occasional research and planning activities, and contribute to the overall management of Nelnet's tax and financial reporting policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare federal and state income tax returns and supporting documentation.
• Assist in the preparation of state apportionment work papers.
• Provide support related to state income tax audits.
• Prepare various gross receipt tax return filings.
• Analyze tax correspondence and direct it to the appropriate parties.
• Conduct occasional income tax research and assist with tax planning analysis.
• Support the overall management of Nelnet's tax policy.

EDUCATION:
A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a focus on Taxation is required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:


1+ years of experience in tax compliance and return preparation within a public accounting firm or commercial business, along with tax research and planning experience, and a solid understanding of GAAP.

Experience in multi-state tax preparation is preferred.

Demonstrates strong analytical skills and sound business judgment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel:
Utilizes various functions, including pivot tables, and is capable of working independently.

Communicates confidently and engages with all levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing, displaying assurance in expressing opinions and viewpoints.

Strong interpersonal skills are essential.
Compensation for this position ranges from $50,000 to $79,000, with a hybrid work model. Emphasis is placed on work-life balance, with minimal overtime expected.
