Position Summary:

The primary objective of this role is to execute manual labor tasks as part of a team dedicated to the maintenance and enhancement of public parks, facilities, roadways, and infrastructure. The specific responsibilities may vary depending on the department, and the work is primarily physical, conducted under the guidance of a Crew Supervisor or Leader.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in manual labor within a designated department, which may include tasks related to grounds upkeep, park maintenance, street repairs, sanitation, facility care, or other departmental projects; assist skilled workers and equipment operators as necessary.
  • Depending on departmental needs, responsibilities may encompass roadside upkeep, landscaping, and grounds maintenance activities such as mowing, trimming, planting, pruning, debris removal, and soil preparation.
  • Participate in the setup and cleanup of work sites, ensuring all tools and materials are organized and returned to their proper locations after use.
  • Operate various light machinery and hand tools pertinent to departmental projects, including but not limited to mowers, trimmers, and other maintenance equipment.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure they remain in good working order, including inspections, minor repairs, and cleaning.
  • Adhere to established safety protocols, utilizing safety gear and monitoring the work environment to ensure the safety of all personnel involved.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including reports and time cards, to maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks and resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Provide support to other departments or team members as required.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Department-Specific Functions:

In the Transportation Department, responsibilities may include tasks related to street and drainage projects, such as preparing surfaces for asphalt, repairing roadways, and maintaining drainage systems.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience: A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, along with three years of experience in maintenance, landscaping, or related fields.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
  • Flagging Certification may be required based on departmental needs.

Physical Requirements:

This position involves heavy physical activity, including lifting, climbing, and operating machinery, often in varying environmental conditions.

Work Environment:

Work is typically performed outdoors, with exposure to various weather conditions and potential hazards associated with maintenance tasks.
