Our Advisory and Specialty Services Division, which encompasses Environmental Standards, assists clients in both public and private sectors to tackle their unique environmental challenges. We excel in specialized areas such as Environmental Forensics, ensuring high-quality, impactful solutions grounded in data integrity.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
The Lead Forensic Chemistry Specialist role is a fully remote position, welcoming qualified candidates from across the nation.
As a vital member of the Environmental Standards Forensic team, your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks, including:
- Gaining familiarity with Environmental Standards' administrative functions and departmental capabilities, including corporate policies, timekeeping, and project accounting.
- Understanding the Business Development (BD) team and their resources, including CRM software and sales practices.
- Acquiring knowledge of our core practice areas, such as Chemistry, EHSS, and Environmental Data Management, to identify potential service opportunities.
- Reviewing Chemistry Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to data validation and site assessment protocols.
- Learning our methodologies for data validation and laboratory procedural reviews across various analytical methods.
- Demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of analytical principles, compliance requirements, and validation procedures.
- Observing laboratory audits to assess compliance with established standards and quality management systems.
- Participating as a senior team member in projects involving environmental and forensic data review and interpretation.
- Establishing communication with client contacts to discuss your role and the services provided by Environmental Standards.
- Identifying applications for our services in chemical forensic contexts across various industries.
- Leading project management efforts and providing guidance in laboratory procedural reviews and environmental data interpretation.
- Conducting laboratory audits to ensure compliance with relevant standards and quality management systems.
- Preparing and supervising the development of quality program documents, including SAP/QAPPs and SOPs.
- Supporting the growth of the Chemistry practice through technical and marketing initiatives, including training new hires.
- Generating one (1) qualified business lead weekly and submitting two (2) proposals monthly for Chemistry-related project work.
- Closing two (2) project opportunities quarterly within the Chemistry disciplines.
- Attending client meetings and industry events as required.
- Participating in educational seminars to stay updated on regulatory and technological advancements.
- Presenting at industry conferences and trade shows.
- Meeting or exceeding client billability goals while dedicating time to effective sales efforts.
Typical clients include multinational corporations, retail, industrial, and energy sectors, as well as legal firms.
Typical forensic consulting projects involve establishing project objectives, specifying data requirements, vetting laboratory providers, ensuring data validity, and communicating project outcomes.
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS
To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
- Over 10 years of experience in environmental analytical data validation or laboratory management.
- At least 5 years of experience in environmental chemical forensic data interpretation.
- Proficiency in statistical data evaluation techniques.
- Strong knowledge of US EPA methods for environmental sample analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A proven track record of delivering technical presentations at industry events.
- Willingness to travel for client and industry engagements.
- Familiarity with environmental data management systems and automated data review tools is a plus.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to draw valid conclusions from data.
- Commitment to confidentiality and safe work practices.
- Participation in continuous improvement initiatives.
