Job Summary

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a skilled Pediatric Lactation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our interdisciplinary patient care team, you will provide lactation services and education to meet the needs of our identified patient population within the scope of our medical center's mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Participate as an interdisciplinary patient care team member to provide lactation services and education to meet the needs of our identified patient population.
  • Determine breastfeeding plans and provide instruction and support to mothers breastfeeding children requiring hospitalization.
  • Evaluate positive signs of lactogenesis and latching on, and assess the adequacy of breast milk intake and determine appropriate goals.
  • Implement teaching interventions based on infant's clinical condition, mother's progress, and breastfeeding goals.
  • Design, implement, and monitor policies and procedures for breastfeeding management, including the collection, transport, storage, and feeding of breast milk to hospitalized infants.
  • Assist in assessing, planning, and evaluating teaching materials and methods used for breastfeeding.
  • Maintain educational materials for patients and healthcare providers, and assess the use of educational materials to teach patients and healthcare providers.
  • Direct lactation training and education of clinical staff, and design and provide lactation management education and competency-based training for nursing and nutrition staff.
  • Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team, and participate in interdisciplinary rounds and patient care conferences.

Requirements
  • Experience in pediatric populations from birth through early childhood.
  • Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics, Education, Nursing, or a related field, and IBCLC certification.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/services appropriate to the age of patients served, and possess excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
