About the Fleet Maintenance Manager Role

As a Fleet Maintenance Manager at Waste Management, you will be responsible for prioritizing and executing tasks in a high-pressure environment to manage all fleet and maintenance activities for our Somerset, WI hauling site.

You will oversee the daily operations of the maintenance shop, leading a team of 4 technicians to maintain a fleet of diesel-powered trucks. Your knowledge of heavy-duty trucks will enable you to understand service-related issues, maintain high standards in maintenance settings, and ensure all safety standards are being upheld.

You will focus on achieving market base profitability through effective management of all fleet and maintenance activities, including cost control, employee development, and high training and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Continually focus on achieving market base profitability through effective management of all fleet and maintenance activities within the assigned area, including cost control, employee development, and high training and safety standards.
  • Review capital equipment requisitions in line with Corporate guidelines and objectives.
  • Ensure safe and reliable vehicles are available to meet operational requirements.
  • Manage effective utilization of vehicle assets.
  • Conduct fleet evaluations to ensure maintenance standards are met.
  • Ensure maintenance shops are adequately staffed and mechanics are properly trained.
  • Ensure vehicle management systems are effectively utilized.
  • Comply with and ensure adherence to Waste Management's Mission to Zero standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Meet all financial review dates and corporate directed programs in a timely fashion.
  • Assist in budget process as required.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the maintenance shops through regular inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Oversee personnel needs of the department, including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance.
  • Provide input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Conduct and/or attend and contribute to periodic driver/safety meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among all employees and promote maximum morale, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Provide training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.
  • Update and submit required reports in a timely manner.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree (accredited), or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) or High School Equivalency and four (4) years of relevant work experience.
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience (in addition to the education requirement).
