Job Description

At Mid-State Industrial Maintenance, we're looking for an ambitious and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Machinist Trainee. This entry-level position offers hands-on training and experience in machining processes and techniques, providing a solid foundation for a successful career in the manufacturing field.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist experienced machinists in operating various types of machines, including lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC machines, while learning to set up and adjust equipment according to job specifications.
  • Perform basic machining operations, such as cutting, drilling, grinding, and finishing, under supervision, and follow detailed instructions to produce accurate and high-quality parts.
  • Learn to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to understand specifications and tolerances for machining tasks.
  • Use and maintain hand tools, measuring instruments, and machinery, while adhering to safety protocols to ensure safe operation and handling of tools and equipment.
  • Assist in the maintenance and cleaning of machines and work areas, and report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor.
  • Keep accurate records of work performed, including time spent on tasks, materials used, and any issues encountered, and provide feedback on training progress and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other apprentices, machinists, and team members to support production goals and contribute to a positive and efficient work environment.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a vocational program in machining or a related field is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Basic understanding of machining concepts and a strong willingness to learn.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work with precision.

Work Environment:

  • Work is typically performed in a machine shop environment, requiring adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to detect or tell the differences between sounds that vary in pitch and loudness.
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • The ability to walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, and stand/sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Occasional climbing and the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds.
