Job Summary: As a Machine Shop Quality Control Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring products produced by the Mid-State Machine Shop meet required specifications by executing proven quality practices and systems and providing documentation and reports to management. This position involves working closely with mechanics, machinists, and other skilled tradespeople. Strong teamwork, communication and collaboration are daily requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute job specific Quality Control plans.
- Inspect outsourced parts.
- Process first article inspection documentation.
- Review all rejected or parts in question.
- Maintain inspection history of completed projects and trending metrics.
- Determine inspection equipment needs and notify management.
- Maintain record of non-conforming material.
- Maintain calibration and control records for precision metrology tools.
- Assist with the documentation of calibration tools and records.
- Assist with the creation and implementation of inspection procedures.
- Perform vendor audits as required.
- Ensure inspections and delivery are performed in a timely manner.
- High school diploma or GED
- Trade, technical or vocational school in industrial mechanics is a plus.
- Prior experience in industrial fabrication and/or maintenance desired
- Prior experience as an Industrial Mechanic working on rotating equipment is a plus.
- Ability to use inspection equipment capable of measuring .0001'.
- Strong working knowledge of all inspection equipment to include, calipers, micrometers, bore gage, height gage, profilometer, hardness testers and more.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Mechanical knowledge of fits and mating parts
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and written.
- Moderate to Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
- Ability to produce, reports and maintain accurate NCR data.
- Knowledge of and ability to use metric and US systems of measurement.

Work Environment:
- Shop environment: Hot, humid, and/or cold temperatures. Industrial environments often have exposure to hazardous elements, such as chemicals, dust and moving and heavy equipment.
- PPE and safety awareness are required.
- Some overnight work may be required.
- Overtime is frequently required.
Physical Requirements: Must always be alert and able to safely perform the essential duties of the job without risking harm to oneself or others.
Talk/Hear: Must be able to talk and hear well enough to effectively communicate quality control expectations and outcomes with team members and leaders.
Stand/Sit: Must be able to stand to for lengthy periods to take accurate measurements while conducting quality inspections. Must be able to sit at a computer for extended periods while producing quality reports.
Walk: Must be able to traverse through the shop and other industrial environments to conduct quality inspections.
Use hands/fingers to handle or feel: Frequently uses arms, hands, and fingers to maneuver in tight and confined spaces. Also uses arms, hands, and fingers to hold tools and equipment to complete precise measurements for quality inspections.
Climb: Must be able to climb ladders and traverse large equipment, scaffolding, and elevated surface.
Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl: Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist and bend well enough to effectively maneuver around work area, to include over, under and into parts and equipment to include confined spaces and elevated surfaces.
See: Must be able to see well enough to read, interpret and understand blueprints, schematics, specification and other written and electronic documents and to safely navigate obstacles in a heavy industrial environment.
Carry, weight, Lift: Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects up to 100 pounds.
