Position Overview

The Assistant Golf Course Operations Manager works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Lead Assistant Manager. This role involves overseeing and participating in the application of chemicals and the agronomic strategy for the golf course and its surroundings, while also contributing to the upkeep of the course and its facilities. The Assistant Manager will execute applications and supervise additional personnel engaged in similar duties. In the absence of the Superintendent or Lead Assistant, this individual may assume their responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assists in strategizing and overseeing the maintenance of the property by organizing tasks and managing staff and equipment usage.
  • Direct Reports include all hourly Grounds Maintenance team members.
  • Guides equipment operators on the proper use and maintenance of mowing and other machinery; carries out chemical and fertilizer applications; oversees and participates in the operation and upkeep of pumps, as well as the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems, including water management and irrigation setup.
  • Contributes to personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, and discipline, and may adjust daily work schedules based on professional judgment.
  • Conducts routine safety inspections on all equipment.
  • Must be able to read and interpret chemical labels and is responsible for maintaining chemical and fertilizer application records for the Golf Course Superintendent.
  • Ensures cleanliness and maintenance of work areas, storage spaces, and equipment in the maintenance facility.
  • Assists in implementing procedures and streamlining workflows; analyzes and standardizes processes to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Identifies and manages weeds or invasive plants and implements suitable eradication and control strategies.
  • Ensures the safe and proper use of tools, vehicles, and equipment; complies with established safety standards and regulations.
  • Opens and secures facilities as necessary.
  • Assists in formulating and enforcing policies, rules, and regulations for the golf course.
  • May oversee various employee committees as required and assigned.
  • Performs all other related tasks as directed by management.
Qualifications:
  • Must be available for emergency and after-hours calls on nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to read and write; capable of performing basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to calibrate sprayers and spreaders.
  • Knowledge of various chemicals and calibration of pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides in accordance with safety guidelines and label instructions.
  • Must present a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Self-motivated and customer service-oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable and consistent attendance.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and collaborate with turf associates, other club departments, members, and guests.
  • Capable of working independently to complete assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Proficient in personal computers and software applications including Word, Excel, etc.
  • Familiarity with First Aid and relevant safety precautions.
Physical Requirements:

While performing the essential functions of this role, the Assistant Golf Course Operations Manager will frequently need to lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to 75 lbs. This position may expose the employee to fumes, odors, or airborne particles; outdoor weather conditions including dampness, wetness, or humidity; toxic or caustic substances; electrical currents; excessive noise; grease and soil; and moving mechanical parts.

Licenses or Certifications:

Employee must obtain a GA pesticide application license within 6 months of hire.

Employee must obtain a Georgia EPD Class A and B certification for U.S.T within 12 months of hire.
