Canyon Contracting, Inc. stands as a premier entity in CIP Concrete Construction within the DC-Baltimore area, focusing on structural concrete projects for educational institutions, healthcare facilities, parking structures, and more. As a dynamic organization, we are on the lookout for essential personnel to support our ongoing expansion. We are currently in search of a Chief Survey Engineer with extensive expertise in Trimble Robotics Total Station or comparable systems. Proficiency in CAD and other concrete layout software is essential.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Chief Survey Engineer will oversee the layout of various projects in alignment with the Scope of Work, RFIs/ASIs, and surveyor's control. This role necessitates close collaboration with the Job Superintendent, Foreman, and Project Manager to deliver precise concrete work layouts. Responsibilities include providing technical support to field engineers, troubleshooting drawing-related issues, defining and researching problems, interpreting data, developing solutions, and making informed decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accurately overlay project drawings received from Project Management into AutoCAD.
  • Import drawings into Magnet Field and upload completed drawings to Trimble.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Trimble Robotic Total Station.
  • Resolve design discrepancies and make necessary adjustments in Trimble.
  • Follow directives from the Job Superintendent/Foreman regarding project plans and specifications while in the field.
  • Continuously review all shop drawings and RFIs/ASIs throughout the project to make timely design layout adjustments and avoid delays.
  • Utilize Surveyor's control to establish Canyon's control lines for the job site.
  • Assess benchmarks/elevations provided by the surveyor to determine Canyon's control/elevation for the job site.
  • Coordinate with the Job Superintendent/Foreman and Carpenters for project layout.
    • Provide layout for anchor bolts.
    • Identify and layout locations for embeds.
    • Layout templates for rebar, walls, and columns/beams.
  • Establish as-built drawings and document any changes for anchor bolts, column lines, and/or elevations. Communicate changes to the Foreman/Job Superintendent.
  • Consistently verify plans and specifications for constructability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Handle instruments provided by Canyon with care to prevent damage.
  • Enhance professional skills through ongoing training, education, and networking opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain trusting relationships with existing clients while identifying opportunities to expand our customer base.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 5 years of concrete engineering experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience using AutoCAD and other concrete drawing software.
  • Proven ability to read, interpret, and understand blueprints, as well as RFIs/ASIs.
  • Demonstrated experience with Magnet Field and AutoCAD is required.
  • AutoCAD certification is a plus.
  • Experience operating Trimble Robotic Station is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Bilingual capabilities are a plus.
  • OSHA 30 Certification is preferred.
  • CPR Certification is preferred.
