About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled CEI Inspector to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team in Western North Carolina. As a CEI Inspector, you will play a key role in overseeing, administering, and inspecting transportation projects, including roadways, bridges, railways, pedestrian pathways, ports, and aviation facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor contractor activities, including earthmoving, paving, bridge construction, and traffic control, to ensure all work adheres to project plans and permits.
  • Keep thorough records by preparing daily diaries, material reports, and field books for contractor payments, which will be crucial for project success.
  • Conduct materials sampling, verify line and grade with survey equipment, and perform key calculations to ensure accurate construction processes.
  • Perform DBE and EEO compliance surveys and verify that erosion control devices meet all environmental and permit requirements.
  • Attend meetings, interact with third-party construction teams, and report to higher-level technical staff for project reviews.
About You
  • You have ONE of the following qualifications: a high school diploma/GED and 4+ years of highway-related construction or inspection (CEI) experience, or a 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology with 2+ years of highway-related construction experience.
  • You have at least TWO of the following NCDOT-based certifications: NCDOT QMS Roadway Certification, NCDOT Conventional Density Certification, NCDOT Concrete Field Technician Certification, NCDOT Erosion Control Level II, or NCDOT Nuclear Gauge Certification.
  • You have strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language.
  • You have good math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure.
