Job Title: Senior Optical Research Engineer

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Optical Research Engineer to join our Advanced Optics R&D group at CFD Research. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and characterizing advanced infrared imaging and sensing prototypes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop advanced infrared imaging and sensing prototypes
  • Assist with customer discovery efforts and lead the generation of new optical system concepts based on feedback
  • Work collaboratively as a member of a research and development team and manage projects with internal and external stakeholders
  • Present research findings, write technical reports, and contribute to proposals and scientific publications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (PhD, or MS with 2+ years of relevant experience) in Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Experience with optical design tools such as ZEMAX, CODE V, and FRED
  • Proficiency in scripting languages and data analysis tools such as MATLAB and Python
  • Experience designing optical systems (especially ones with diffractive optical elements) and building measurement setups to characterize these systems
  • Proficiency in optics including imaging, radiometry, physical and geometric optics, and polarization
  • Knowledge of computational electromagnetic methods such as FDTD and RCWA is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical communication skills
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain/maintain a security clearance
