Job Overview

As a Surface Finishing Process Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and overseeing initiatives related to metal and plastic finishing processes. You will create specifications and manufacturing layouts while collaborating with engineering and quality teams.
  • Setting up and monitoring necessary quality assurance tests for connectors on a weekly and monthly basis, including salt spray and corrosion tests, as per military and customer standards. You will also conduct troubleshooting and failure analysis of plating finishes.
  • Researching and assessing new plating technologies for product enhancement and cost efficiency.
  • Providing technical support to customer inquiries as needed.
  • Reviewing and updating existing processes and documentation to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Coordinating corrective actions for production anomalies and establishing procedures to rectify manufacturing defects.
  • Offering immediate troubleshooting assistance to ensure the team meets delivery and quality objectives.
  • Supporting the plating team in achieving safety and environmental targets.
  • Collaborating with support departments and external vendors to design and modify equipment for specific plating needs.
  • Maintaining process documentation to guarantee successful qualification of both new and existing processes.
  • Managing documentation related to the control of precious metal usage.
  • Assisting Plant Engineering with plating equipment design, ventilation calculations, and waste treatment requirements.
  • Creating process flow diagrams for both new and existing products.


The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3-10 years of experience in electroplating or plating within a research and development or process-focused role.
  • Experience in a diverse metal finishing operation, particularly in producing components for Aerospace and Military applications.
  • Training in Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Statistical Process Control methodologies.
  • Preferred qualifications include Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certifications, and credentials from the American Electroplating and Surface Finishing Society.
  • Certification as an Electroplating Finisher (CEF) or as a Master Surface Finisher (MSF) from the AESF Foundation.
  • Expertise in metal finishing processes and chemistry.
  • A solid understanding of quality systems, process control, statistical analysis, and safety practices in manufacturing.
  • Strong project management skills, structured problem-solving abilities, and ethical decision-making capabilities, along with proficiency in data analysis and knowledge of SPC, ISO, and IPC standards.
  • Familiarity with military and NADCAP specifications and qualifications.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with a keen attention to detail and a track record of meeting strict deadlines.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks that may involve sitting, standing, walking, and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Willingness to work in a chemical environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials and conditions, while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Flexibility for occasional travel as required.
  • Eligibility to work on defense and satellite programs governed by ITAR regulations, necessitating U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
