As a Senior Staff Attorney, you will serve as a litigation lead counsel in Virginia Occupational Safety and Health (VOSH) contested cases in circuit courts, and provide legal and technical support in the development of standards, regulatory rulemaking, policy formulation, and legislative proposals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze legal issues upon request from agency staff to facilitate compliance efforts under applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Presents findings and recommendations to agency leadership resulting from the legal research and analysis.
  • Handles more complex cases and provides legal and technical support in the development of standards, regulatory rulemaking, policy formulation, and legislative proposals.
  • Collaborates with agency staff to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Virginia Rules of Civil Procedure and the Virginia Administrative Process Act.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • An active member of the Virginia State Bar.
  • Litigation experience.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State laws governing Labor, and Occupational Safety and Health, as well as the ability to conduct research and analysis.
  • Experience in a similar position in government or private industry.
  • Verifiable fluency in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid driver's license or ability to obtain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to occasionally travel overnight.
  • Ability to perform moderate physical activity that includes, but is not limited to, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, walking up and down inclines, occasionally lifting and carrying loads up to 30 pounds, etc.
