Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Services Librarian to join our team at the University of St. Thomas Doherty Library. The successful candidate will provide reference services, serve as the reference desk coordinator, and conduct library instruction to graduate and undergraduate students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with students and faculty to provide research assistance and support their research needs.
  • Provide research help at the reference desk and develop access to reference services through new technologies.
  • Manage and coordinate social media services at Doherty Library and develop a social media strategy to maximize the library's message and involvement.
  • Write the library's newsletter and plan for and lead the library's participation in orientation events on campus.
  • Provide library instruction, including basic, intermediate, and advanced instruction, and lead library instruction for the Mendenhall Summer Institute.
  • Plan and implement Information Literacy programs and provide library orientations for various groups.
  • Serve as library liaison to several academic departments and oversee special programs, including tours and instruction for outside groups.
  • Supervise and evaluate student assistants and part-time reference librarians.
Requirements
  • ALA accredited MLS degree.
  • Experience with reference assistance, bibliographic instruction, and developing social media, user guides, and interfaces.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time non-tenure track faculty position with a flexible schedule in coordination with other reference staff. Some evening and weekend hours are required.
