Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Assistance Disaster Recovery Specialist to join our team at AECOM. As a key member of our disaster recovery team, you will be responsible for providing technical assistance to applicants and supporting the communication process with FEMA. Your expertise in project management, construction, and engineering will be essential in ensuring the successful delivery of public assistance grants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance to applicants, including collecting and coordinating data, reviewing eligibility, and supporting communication with FEMA.
  • Support the communication process with applicants, including scheduling regular meetings and tracking progress.
  • Coordinate the transmittal of documents through FEMA's Consolidated Resource Centers and schedule site inspections.
  • Support the claims process, reviewing and validating damage details, scopes of work, and costs with applicants.
  • Participate in regular FEMA meetings, providing updates on work status and evaluating claims.
  • Assist with the development of the Determination Memo and communicate final determinations to applicants.
  • Conduct exit briefings with applicants and coordinate site inspections to validate and record damage.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Engineering, or a related field with 4 years of related technical experience or demonstrated equivalency.
  • Must have the technical knowledge base and experience in the discipline's standard concepts, principles, and techniques.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Google Earth, and smartphone.
  • Must be able to commit to travel assignments for up to 1 year in duration.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and pass AECOM's motor vehicle records review.
Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience in a related field and professional registration or Bachelor's degree with 10 years of experience in a related field.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Construction-related experience, such as civil engineers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, environmental engineers/planners, coastal engineers, site inspectors, and architects.
  • Prior FEMA PA and/or CRC experience, including experience with FEMA's PA Program and Policy Guide (PAPPG), the Stafford Act, 44 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), 2 CFR, Sandy Recovery Improvement Act (SRIA) Legislation, PA grant documentation review or project development experience, validating PA grant documentation, and developing or reviewing damage descriptions and dimensions, scopes of work, and cost estimates for PA grant applications.
  • Experience using FEMA Grants Manager.
  • Current DHS Public Trust clearance/badge.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience providing excellent customer service.
  • Strong observational, decision-making, analytical, critical thinking, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible work style with the ability to immediately adapt to changing priorities.
  • Able to work independently, in a team environment, and under stressful conditions with tight deadlines.
