As a Horizontal Construction Engineer with the Army National Guard, you'll play a crucial role in preparing construction sites for various projects. Your primary responsibility will be to operate heavy equipment such as bulldozers, roadgraders, and cranes to clear and level the terrain. This involves analyzing grade stakes, cutting and spreading fill material, and transporting heavy construction equipment with a tractor-trailer. You'll also assist in the performance of combat engineer missions and develop skills in maintenance and repair of equipment. Through your training, you'll gain expertise in basic construction methods and engineering principles, particularly in operating heavy construction equipment. You may also earn specialized certifications that enable you to transition into a civilian construction career. In the Army National Guard, you'll learn these valuable skills while earning a regular paycheck and qualifying for tuition assistance. Job training for Horizontal Construction Engineers consists of nine weeks of Basic Training and nine weeks of Advanced Individual Training, with a mix of classroom and field instruction.
