Position Summary:

The Environmental Operations Specialist is responsible for overseeing the daily functions and maintenance of a permanent household hazardous waste collection facility. This role involves receiving, sorting, analyzing, sampling, labeling, manifesting, packaging, and disposing of materials in strict adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant governmental regulations and internal policies.
  • Receive, sort, analyze, sample, label, manifest, package, and direct materials to the appropriate disposal site.
  • Facilitate timely recycling and disposal of materials.
  • Assess disposal capabilities and limitations to guarantee efficient and compliant recycling and disposal processes.
  • Conduct regular on-site audits to verify adherence to state and federal hazardous waste disposal standards.
  • Maintain all equipment to optimize performance and efficiency in project completion.
  • Analyze the chemical composition of materials, identifying hazardous elements.
  • Accurately complete all necessary VESTS/DOT/EPA documentation.
  • Identify and act on opportunities to enhance value-added services for clients.
  • Maintain professionalism and courteous communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in and successfully complete all mandatory training sessions (VESTS, OSHA, etc.).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or Chemistry.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in hazardous waste management.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of contract provisions and terms.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal hazardous waste disposal regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Skilled in the effective use of computer systems.
  • Ability to conduct scientific testing of chemicals in accordance with regulations.
  • Capable of analyzing and categorizing materials efficiently.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Certifications / Licenses:

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Commercial Driver's License.
