Job Summary

Southwest Research Institute is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our Solar System Science & Exploration Division in Boulder, Colorado. As a Research Scientist, you will conduct basic observational, modeling, and theoretical research in a wide range of solar system and astrophysical topics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in solar system and astrophysical topics, including Solar Physics/Heliophysics, Planetary Science, Astrophysics, Origins Research, and Geophysics.
  • Participate and/or lead several NASA orbital and deep space missions, including PUNCH (Sun), Solar Orbiter (Sun), Vigil (Sun), Mars Science Laboratory (Mars), New Horizons (Pluto) and Lucy (Jovian Trojans).
  • Develop and implement research plans, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve research goals and objectives.
  • Present research findings at conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Planetary Science or a related field.
  • Strong background in solar system and astrophysical research.
  • Experience with data analysis and interpretation.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NASA missions and/or space-related research.
  • Programming skills in languages such as Python, Mathematica, and ArcGIS.
  • Familiarity with USGS image processing software and small bodies mapping tools.
