We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead our mechanical engineering team in designing innovative, world-class products. The ideal candidate will have a broad design engineering background in robotics and automation, with a strong focus on project management and technical leadership.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Acorn Product Development, Inc., you will be responsible for designing, building, and testing systems and critical components. You will also brainstorm, design, and compare potential product architectures against client metrics, and assist clients in defining product specifications, schedules, and resource planning.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, with experience in project management, technical leadership, and design for manufacturability. They will also be proficient in Solidworks CAD and FEA, and have experience with life science instrument and/or medical device design.

Responsibilities
- Lead a mechanical engineering team designing products with multiple, powered DOFs.
- Design, build, and test systems and critical components.
- Brainstorm, design, and compare potential product architectures against client metrics.
- Identify and perform critical engineering analyses and tests from concept evaluations to production verification.
- Assist clients in defining product specifications, schedules, and resource planning.
- Manage project budget, schedule, and deliverables as the primary point of contact with clients.
Requirements
- BSME required, MSME preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of technical system-level design experience.
- Project Management experience leading a cross-functional team.
- Mechatronics expertise: motors, bearings, gear trains, belt drives, and sensors.
- Experience with motion control hardware including motors (steppers, servos, dc motors) and position sensors (encoders, limit switches, etc.).
- Experience with end effector design is a plus.
- Multiple projects designed, fabricated, and tested.
- Automation experience for industrial applications and manufacturing lines.
- Hands-on system bring-up and integration with a cross-functional team.
- ME analysis experience in kinematics, structural, thermal, and tolerances.
- Materials and component selection expertise.
- Proficient in Solidworks CAD and FEA.
- Experience with life science instrument and/or medical device design is a plus.
