Job Summary

The Peer Recovery Coach will provide support services to individuals seeking or sustaining recovery. This role involves acting as a mentor and guide, promoting recovery by helping peers remove barriers, connect to the recovery community, and engage in supportive services.

The Peer Recovery Coach will maintain a recovery circle of peers, ensuring frequency of engagement supports long-term recovery. Accurate documentation of coaching sessions, referrals, evaluations, and wellness recovery plans is also required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a role model, sharing personal strengths and skills, and promoting hope for recovery.
  • Support the values of Communities for Recovery.
  • Model, advocate, and promote recovery goals and philosophy within the community.
  • Provide monthly reports to the Program Director on all activities.

Coaching Services

  • Assist peers in developing and maintaining a comprehensive wellness recovery plan.
  • Maintain a schedule and peer circle to ensure frequency of engagement supports peer recovery goals.
  • Educate peers on accessing community opportunities and resources.
  • Provide recovery services in emotional, instrumental, instructional, and affiliational support.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of coaching sessions and wellness recovery plans.

  • Be flexible and open to multiple pathways forward in recovery.
  • Be strong in the belief that most people can move forward in life in recovery.
  • Have excellent people skills and ability to work with individuals.
  • Be able to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Have the ability to express themselves in written and verbal communication.
  • Be able to use computers and program-related software proficiently.
  • Work independently and possess strong time management skills.
  • Understand and ensure the ethical practices of a Peer Recovery Coach.

Job Supports and Training

  • Direct supervision from the Peer Recovery Coach Coordinator.
  • Training specific to the Peer Recovery Coach role.
  • Weekly support and feedback sessions with experienced Peer Coaches.
  • Participation in training and role-play exercises as needed.

Experience

  • Must be a person with lived experience and currently in self-directed recovery.
  • Background check free of arrests/convictions related to assault and/or endangering the safety of others.
  • Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) State of Texas Certification.

License or Certificate

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Certified State of Texas Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) or approved by the Texas Certification Board to begin 250-hour internship toward Full RSPS Certification.
