Job Title: Data Engineer Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer Lead to join our team at John Hancock. As a key member of our data engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and delivering data pipelines, data warehouses, and big data solutions that drive business insights and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and build robust, modular, scalable, deployable, reproducible, and versioned data pipelines for machine learning and artificial intelligence applications.
  • Manage data infrastructure to source and curate data from disparate sources using appropriate engineering methodologies, computational frameworks, and systems.
  • Identify innovative ways to source and leverage data to support modeling efforts and to scale, optimize, and refactor existing tools and workflows.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize actionable, high-impact insights using data and machine learning/artificial intelligence solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to leadership on data and analytics solution design and best practices.
Requirements:
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or SQL.
  • Proven experience building data pipelines in production for advanced analytics use cases.
  • Experience with big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, or other open-source big data tools.
  • Experience with developing APIs to support public-facing web applications.
  • Familiarity with distributed computing frameworks, cloud platforms, containerization, and analytics libraries.
  • Experience with real-time data streaming tools like Kafka, Kinesis, or Apache Storm.
  • Practical knowledge of software engineering concepts and best practices, including DevOps, DataOps, and MLOps.
What We Offer:

At John Hancock, we offer a competitive salary range of $117,390.00 USD - $218,010.00 USD, depending on location and relevant job-related factors. We also offer a wide array of customizable benefits, including health, dental, mental health, vision, short- and long-term disability, life, and AD&D insurance coverage, adoption/surrogacy, and wellness benefits. Our generous paid time off program includes up to 11 paid holidays, 3 personal days, 150 hours of vacation, and 40 hours of sick time (or more where required by law) each year.
