About the Role

As a Therapeutic Support Officer with the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, you will play a critical role in the secure treatment and care of individuals with an intellectual disability who have come to our facilities through the criminal justice system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, advice, support, and guidance to residents in a secure environment.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of treatment plans to help residents achieve their goals and engage in positive behavioral change.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the provision of high-quality care and support services.
  • Manage and respond to incidents related to challenging behaviors, implementing behavior support strategies and positive behavior support plans as required.
  • Conduct regular assessments and reviews to ensure the effectiveness of treatment plans and make adjustments as necessary.
Accountabilities
  • Directly support client wellbeing, including support with daily household activities, preparation and assistance with meals, personal care, and social, recreational and community experiences that enhance quality of life, based on support plan goals.
  • Manage and assist as part of a team incidents related to challenging behaviors and implementing behavior support strategies and positive behavior support plans according to legislative requirements.
  • Understand client needs, preferences, and interests and respond to clients and their families and others in their lives.
Requirements
  • Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid work permit or visa.
  • Relevant qualifications and experience in a related field.
  • Ability to work in a secure environment and manage challenging behaviors.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
