Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation Designer to join our team at Eichleay Engineers. As an Instrumentation Designer, you will work closely with our client and reporting into the Electrical and Instrumentation Design Lead to complete the design of instrumentation for maintenance and repair projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepares drawings, specifications, technical calculations, bills of material, and assembles construction work packages.
  • Reviews vendor equipment packages.
  • Learns how to wire loops in SPI with incremental advancement to achieve SPI Administration proficiency.
  • Assists others to collect or deliver design and engineer data.
  • Participates in job walks and performs site visits, assisting in scope development and support IFC package completion.
  • Demonstrates awareness and commitment to health, safety, and environmental issues.
  • Consistently achieves goals, delivers quality and accurate work, and meets timelines.
  • Effectively interacts with all levels of employees, clients, and vendors.
  • Strong customer focus with commitment to building enduring relationships that yield customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Requirements
  • Associate degree in an engineering or scientific discipline; or specialized courses in drafting, design, and engineering practices with 5 years or more experience.
  • Sound knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, computer modeling work, and reading of drawings.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interacts with clients, project field personnel, and other team staff.
  • Experience with, and understanding of Document Management systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Raster Design software.
  • Experience with Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI).
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite and an expert with Excel.
  • Experience with and editing drawings using Blue Beam software.
  • TWIC certification and current card or ability to obtain.
  • Ability to work on-site at a refinery or industrial facility with HHFT certification.
  • Ability to be badged for process safety management governed facilities, which will require pre-hire substance abuse screening, background check, and random substance abuse screening thereafter.
Preferred Requirements
  • Previous experience working on-site at an oil refining or industrial facility.
  • Experience in writing lisp routines and scripts as they relate to Autocad.
  • Experience creating dynamic blocks for use in Autocad.
  • Experience with instrument heat tracing design.
  • Understanding of Underground Duct Bank systems design.
  • Experience in conductor/cable sizing requirements, calculating conduit fill and cable tray fill and design.
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Code (NEC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 70).
  • Understanding of Area Classification requirements.
  • Familiarity with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
  • Familiarity with the IEC and API 551.
  • Experience in the development and drafting of Process and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID's).
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • While performing duties of this job, you would occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear (this includes being able to hear and talk on site based communication equipment), distinguish between various colors, be able to hear safety tones/notifications, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, temperature or controls.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Overtime may be necessary as workload dictates. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Job duties will generally be performed at a Client's office, client site, production facility or industrial/construction job site.
  • Conditions and/or schedule will vary at each Client location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
  • Candidates will be required to follow our clients' site based rules and protocols regarding infectious diseases.
