Position Overview


The Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for delivering comprehensive care tailored to a specific demographic of patients, utilizing the nursing process which encompasses assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

This role involves collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure the effective execution of medical procedures and treatment plans. The Clinical Nurse Specialist employs leadership abilities and clinical judgment to coordinate patient care and oversee the activities of the healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities


1. Conduct thorough patient assessments, including interviews to explain policies and procedures, review medical histories, and address inquiries with accuracy and professionalism.

2. Evaluate patients' health status across various systems, including gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and neurological, while also assessing mobility, sensory deficits, and skin integrity.

3. Identify and manage pain levels, documenting physiological health status and care plans effectively.

4. Assess psychosocial health, understanding patients' perceptions of care and expectations, while also identifying cultural and ethnic needs to enhance patient satisfaction.

5. Develop individualized patient outcome statements and establish specific goals, prioritizing care activities to achieve desired results.

6. Ensure the efficient use of medical supplies, equipment, and medications, documenting care plans and collaborating with the healthcare team.

7. Maintain vigilant oversight of patient care, adhering to safety protocols and ensuring a supportive environment.

8. Provide emotional support to patients and their families, while also participating in discharge planning and coordinating referrals as necessary.

9. Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided, documenting outcomes and engaging in performance improvement initiatives.

10. Administer medications safely and educate patients and families about drug interactions and health management.


Qualifications


• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing; a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.

• Must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN Degree within five years of employment.

• Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State is required, along with any necessary specialized certifications.

• A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in critical care is preferred.
