Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Phlebotomist, under the guidance and continuous oversight of the Clinical Operations Manager and the Principal Investigator, is responsible for performing phlebotomy on patients participating in research studies, adhering to established laboratory protocols.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are essential and may include additional tasks as assigned:

  1. Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
  2. Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  3. Collect specimens punctually, recognizing the significance of timing for specific tests, and follow standard operating procedures for laboratory samples.
  4. Document the date and time of blood collection on all laboratory requisition forms and specimen containers; accurately complete laboratory accession records.
  5. Comply with all laboratory safety protocols and report any potential hazards to the Clinical Operations Manager.
  6. Efficiently manage incoming supplies.
  7. Keep the phlebotomy area organized, clean, and adequately stocked with necessary supplies.
  8. Ensure blood drawing trays are maintained in a tidy and accessible manner.
  9. Follow universal precautions, handle biohazard materials safely, and practice sharps safety.
  10. Assist with additional tasks such as data collection, filing, billing, and supporting technologists as needed.
  11. Fulfill all study protocol requirements and timelines.

QUALIFICATIONS: To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy certification program is required.
  2. A minimum of 2 years of experience in phlebotomy is essential.
  3. Demonstrated ability to engage positively with diverse patient populations involved in research.
  4. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  5. Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  6. Excellent customer service skills when interacting with both internal and external stakeholders.
  7. A proven capacity to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.

CERTIFICATIONS: CPT I licensure is mandatory.

This position is temporary.
