Working with us means engaging in challenging projects that stimulate creativity and problem-solving.

Position Overview:

While we currently do not have an opening for a Research Scientist, we are continually expanding our talent community. We are eager to learn about your expertise.

We are looking for a specialist in theoretical and computational electromagnetism to join our technology development team in the Broad Band Plasma division. This division is responsible for advancing the most sophisticated optical inspection technologies utilized by semiconductor manufacturers to identify critical defects in patterned wafers.

In this role, you will engage in modeling and simulation to explore sensitivity challenges in the optical detection of nanometer-scale defects in semiconductor devices. Your contributions will be vital in shaping the future of optical inspection technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate research concepts through simulation and experimentation, providing a robust theoretical foundation for your findings.
  • Build confidence among stakeholders by demonstrating the predictive accuracy of your models and simulations through comprehensive data analysis.
  • Initially focus on simulations to optimize the geometry and composition of specialized device-patterned wafers, enhancing sensitivity to critical defects in collaboration with major semiconductor manufacturers.

Qualifications:

We prefer candidates with a minimum of 5 years of research experience in electromagnetism, particularly in optics. Proficiency in scientific computing is essential.

Educational Background:

PhD or equivalent experience in Physics, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related disciplines.

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in Fourier optics for modeling coherent and incoherent imaging systems, including wavefront aberrations.
  • Strong understanding of electromagnetic scattering theory and perturbation methods.
  • Ability to set up simulations for complex nanoscale circuitry using finite difference time-domain and/or finite element frequency domain techniques.
  • Experience in verifying results, conducting convergence studies, and selecting appropriate numerical parameters for simulations.
  • Design and implement experiments to validate simulation predictions and explore novel detection methodologies on optical inspection platforms.
  • Proficiency in Python and C/C++ for scientific computing.
  • Familiarity with scripting workflows on Linux-based high-performance computing clusters.

Additional Skills:

We highly value candidates with a proven track record in:

  • Image processing and signal processing, along with knowledge of linear systems.
  • Machine learning and classical modeling techniques for high-dimensional probability distributions.
  • Modeling light-matter interactions in bulk solids and nanoparticles, including familiarity with time-dependent density functional theory and/or non-equilibrium Green's functions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctorate (Academic) Degree with no work experience; Master's Level Degree with 3 years of related experience; Bachelor's Level Degree with 5 years of related experience.

Benefits Overview:

KLA offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(K) with company matching, employee stock purchase program (ESPP), tuition reimbursement, and wellness benefits, among others.

KLA is committed to being an Equal Opportunity Employer, ensuring that all qualified individuals receive fair treatment without discrimination based on race, religion, gender, or any other protected status.
