JOB TITLE: Media Planner & Buyer

DEPARTMENT: Media

REPORTS TO: Director, Media

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Media Planner & Buyer collaborates closely with the Media Director to oversee strategic procurement and planning across diverse media platforms, including television, radio, print, outdoor, OTT, and digital audio, with a focus on offline and emerging channels. This role is accountable for managing the comprehensive media buying and planning processes for designated partners, which entails developing, negotiating, executing, and monitoring paid media initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning

  • Conducts thorough research, negotiation, and execution of effective media strategies that align with partner objectives.
  • Utilizes both internal and external research tools to gather insights on audience demographics, competitive landscape, market trends, and channel effectiveness during the planning phase.
  • Works in tandem with digital media partner service teams across marketing and analytics to deliver integrated, cross-channel media solutions.
  • Responsible for planning and negotiating advanced TV (OTT) and digital audio campaigns, ensuring all necessary coordination, tracking, and digital reporting is executed.
  • Creates and maintains media flowcharts, authorizations, and production schedules/asset summaries.
  • Collaborates with the Analytics team to consistently monitor and evaluate campaign performance, suggesting optimizations as required.
  • Coordinates with partner and account teams to provide creative assets to vendors and ensures quality assurance for all tags and placements.
  • Manages post logs and integrates results into partner reports, tailored to varying partner requirements.
  • Reviews, approves, and processes media billing on a monthly basis.
  • Regularly reconciles budgets and performance metrics, promptly notifying the partner service account team of any discrepancies.
  • Stays informed on media trends and communicates new opportunities to relevant teams.

Buying

  • Oversees the negotiation, acquisition, execution, and delivery of approved media strategies, including Linear TV, Cable, Radio, Print, and Outdoor, as well as extensions in Addressable OTT/CTV and streaming audio.
  • Negotiates and formalizes media purchases, including added-value opportunities.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with media vendors through effective communication, enhancing negotiations and campaign outcomes.
  • Responds to competitive inquiries and compiles relevant competitive data.
  • Organizes and maintains vendor contracts, audience and media research, historical documentation, and reports.
  • Collaborates with vendors to ensure complete fulfillment of ordered media buys.
  • Develops well-researched and articulated points of view on partner and agency opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of media projects, advertising specifications, and vendor requirements, including the preparation of presentations and RFPs.
  • Able to manage complex processes in a dynamic environment.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the capacity to multitask and oversee multiple campaigns simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities to cultivate internal and external relationships.

PREFERABLE ATTRIBUTES:

  • Experience in an agency setting.
  • Familiarity with OTT and digital audio platforms (e.g., Pandora, podcasts).
  • Basic understanding of digital media KPIs, management, and reporting relevant to cross-channel media strategies and OTT/digital audio.
  • Knowledge of common media research and planning tools/software.
  • Strong presentation skills to enhance partner, vendor, and internal relationships.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 1-10 years of relevant experience depending on the level of the role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Management, Business Administration, Public Relations, or a related field is preferred.
