Position Overview:

The Safety Management Assistant plays a crucial role in conducting regular safety evaluations across assigned HITT projects. This position aids Project Teams in overseeing safety conditions and performance metrics.

Reporting directly to a Safety Manager, this role does not involve supervising any direct reports. Assistant managers are expected to operate from project job sites as needed. While career paths and growth opportunities may vary, most team members serve as assistant managers for a duration of up to three years.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform on-site safety evaluations using a web-based Health & Safety application with guidance.
  • Assess project adherence to federal, state, local, corporate, and client safety regulations and protocols.
  • Analyze safety performance of subcontractors engaged in HITT projects.
  • Review safety evaluations with Site Operations teams.
  • Disseminate safety evaluations to essential project team members and subcontractors.
  • Monitor and resolve outstanding safety issues.
  • Research and assess OSHA regulations to meet project requirements under the direction of the Health & Safety manager.
  • Participate in accident and incident investigations with support from other members of the HITT Health & Safety Department.
  • Facilitate safety toolbox discussions.
  • Assist in on-site health and safety training initiatives.
  • Review Job Hazard Analysis with guidance.
  • Contribute to the creation of site-specific safety plans.
  • Engage in project safety and subcontractor meetings as necessary.
  • Support the development and delivery of project Health & Safety orientations.
  • Raise Health & Safety concerns as needed.
  • Assist in selecting safety signage for projects.
  • Help manage and review project documentation requirements.
  • Collaborate to gather information to address Health & Safety-related challenges.
  • Identify or select specialized Health & Safety/protective equipment for projects with assistance.
  • Support the execution of project-wide safety stand-downs.
  • Foster positive working relationships with HITT project teams and subcontractors.
Qualifications:
  • 2-5 years of experience in safety management.
  • A four-year degree from an accredited institution in construction, engineering, or business is highly preferred.
  • In the absence of a degree, relevant work experience will be considered.
  • Current First Aid AED/CPR certification is advantageous.
  • 2-5+ years of experience with a general contractor is preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification is mandatory.
  • Possession of a CSP, ASP, CHST, or other safety-related credentials is preferred.
  • Ability to compose professional reports, business correspondence, and technical documentation.
  • Strong documentation, record-keeping, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, along with a willingness to learn new software applications.
  • Excellent communication abilities.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks and, most importantly, to collaborate effectively within a team.
