The successful applicant will be a swift, precise, and imaginative writer, responsible for producing a range of content such as news articles, reviews, venue listings, guides, and curated lists on a weekly basis. Maintaining the editorial standards that have established Time Out as a leader in lifestyle journalism for over five decades is essential, as is ensuring the impartiality of our coverage.

This role involves overseeing the creation of daily news articles, new best-of guides, and freelance contributions across major cities in Texas. Additionally, the editor will commission SEO-focused articles throughout the Southern USA, particularly emphasizing cities like New Orleans and Atlanta. A keen eye for trends and the ability to utilize analytics for editorial planning are crucial for success in this position.

The selected candidate will also spearhead the development of Time Out Texas's social media presence, generating ideas, producing video content, and crafting engaging copy as needed. A self-motivated individual who can work independently while collaborating virtually with a small team is highly desired.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily editorial content across major Texas cities; pitch and develop engaging stories on news, culture, and urban life.
  • Assign, edit, and produce features and guides focusing on the Southern U.S., particularly New Orleans and Atlanta.
  • Recruit and manage a network of talented local writers.
  • Edit a high volume of articles and produce features on our content management system with an emphasis on SEO.
  • Contribute to the management and growth of Time Out Texas's social media accounts, crafting engaging posts in the Time Out style.
  • Participate in local and national features and projects as required.
  • Maintain a monthly editorial calendar.
  • Write, edit, and produce content that adheres to SEO best practices.
  • Ensure all content meets the company's quality and SEO standards.
  • Engage with metrics and analytics tools for effective editorial planning.

Qualifications

  • 6-8 years of professional experience as a writer/editor in a dynamic online production environment.
  • Proficiency with various industry tools, including content management systems and analytics tools, as well as social media writing.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and interviewing skills; strong news judgment.
  • A proven track record of creating content that captivates audiences and drives engagement across multiple platforms.
