Custodial Associate

The Custodial Associate role is essential for ensuring the cleanliness and overall orderliness of the facility and its various sections, which include entryways, corridors, communal spaces, restrooms, and utility areas.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine janitorial tasks to uphold the property's appearance, including:
• Entrance Area: Conduct daily inspections and frequent cleaning by vacuuming carpets, mopping tiles, cleaning mats, polishing glass, dusting, and wiping walls as necessary.
• Lobby: General cleaning of walls and floors, maintaining light fixtures, emptying trash bins, dusting furniture, and vacuuming floors.
• Hallways: Vacuum carpets, address carpet stains as needed, dust handrails, and wipe walls and doors to eliminate smudges.
• Laundry Facilities: Clean lint screens in dryers daily, remove trash, clear sink drains, mop/wax floors as required, and dust all areas and window sills.
• Floor Care: Strip and wax floors as needed, under the supervision of the Manager.
• Conduct additional housekeeping duties regularly, including:
• Public Restrooms: Inspect restrooms daily, empty trash containers, clean fixtures, maintain mirrors, replenish supplies, and disinfect bathrooms as per schedule.
• Social Areas: Vacuum, dust shelves and books, clean furniture and accessories, and maintain overall cleanliness.
• Community and Crafts Room (including Kitchen): Ensure cleanliness of floors, walls, fixtures, furniture, appliances, and lighting.
• Office and Reception Area: Perform daily cleaning to uphold a professional appearance.
• Obtain approval from the Manager before undertaking major cleaning tasks that may disrupt daily operations.
• Adhere to emergency maintenance protocols, including prompt responses to significant issues, ensuring the safety of residents and staff, and coordinating with local authorities as necessary.
• Execute all other assigned duties as directed.

Qualifications:

• Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
• Experience: No prior experience required.
• Other Requirements: Previous housekeeping experience is beneficial; must possess strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize cleaning needs; must effectively utilize cleaning supplies; must communicate proficiently in English; must interpret various instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; must comply with all terms outlined in the United Church Homes Employee Handbook.
