About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Associate Design Engineer to join our Product Engineering - Underground team at S&C Electric. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of our underground distribution products, including Pad-Mounted Gear, Vista UDS, and Vista SD.

Key Responsibilities
  • Modify existing designs or develop new designs of components and subcomponents, under the direction of senior engineering personnel.
  • Collaborate with development teams to instill best practices for design for manufacture and assembly.
  • Use 3-D modeling to develop new parts and assemblies or revise existing parts and assemblies.
  • Create and maintain bills of materials, mechanical designs, and engineering documents associated with existing and new products.
  • Prepare detailed drawings used for purposes of supplier quotations, manufacturing, and final assembly.
  • Troubleshoot complex shop problems at the source and develop solutions to design and manufacturing related issues.
  • Coordinate and perform product testing under guidance and supervision.
Requirements
  • A two-year degree in design or mechanical engineering technology or the equivalent experience.
  • Strong proficiency in the use of CAD systems and FEA software. Experience with Solid Edge is desired.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, tolerance analysis, and the application of GD&T.
  • Computer literacy/proficiency in Microsoft suite.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design, manufacturing, and model making.
  • Experience in the design and development of products utilizing sheet steel, copper/aluminum rods and bars, castings, stampings, corrosion resistant coatings, and environmental seals.
  • Desire to work hands-on in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to build and grow professional relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to balance multiple projects and tasks.
