Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Public Health Nurse to join our Street Medicine Team. As a key member of our team, you will provide direct nursing care to individuals living outside, engaging them in health education, professional and peer support, and treatment for their medical and behavioral health conditions. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to address the complex needs of our clients, utilizing a trauma-informed, anti-racist, and harm reduction approach.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide outreach and direct nursing care to individuals living outside in community settings, including day centers, encampments, and field-based settings.
  • Carry a backpack with outreach and medical supplies across uneven terrain, during 3-to-5-hour shifts.
  • Ability to don and doff a respirator, as needed.
  • Provide clinical care outside and in the field, including wound care, point-of-care testing, and provision of test results.
  • Facilitate linkages to primary care, behavioral health care, and specialty care.
  • Share responsibility with other team members to drive and park a Sprinter van to various sites, load and unload outreach and medical supplies, and fill and empty water tanks.
  • Provide occasional coverage for mobile medical vans in South County and Seattle.
  • Obtain and document health history, make nursing diagnoses based on nursing assessments, and conduct STI assessments and testing.
  • Document in electronic medical records per policy and standards.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities to meet laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide training, orientation, and education to staff, clients, students, and the community.
  • Assist with tracking client engagement and connections to community health agencies.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and attend staff/team meetings.
  • Train clients on the use of naloxone and dispense naloxone.
  • Assess and counsel clients regarding opiate use disorder and medication-assisted treatment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing science or a graduate-level nursing degree (MSN, DNP, or PhD) from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Washington State license as a Registered Nurse or Multi-State Licensure.
  • Documentation of current BLS-CPR for Healthcare Providers.
  • Washington state driver's license or ability to travel to sites within the county.
  • Pass a background check and pre-employment physical.
Work Schedule

These positions are fully benefitted, 0.8 FTE, and have a typical work schedule of Thursday through Sunday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. May work outside typical days/hours/sites to meet operational needs. These positions are overtime eligible.

Work Location

7272 W Marginal Way S., Seattle, WA, but will work in various locations within Seattle-King County as a field-visiting nurse.
