Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Animal Protection Specialist to join our team at the City of San Marcos, TX. As a key member of our Animal Services department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the welfare and safety of animals in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service and Shelter Diversion: Provide exceptional customer service to the public, responding to animal-related inquiries and complaints, and dispatching Animal Protection Officers as needed.
  • Animal Intake and Reclaim: Assist with handling animal intakes and reclaims, including scanning for microchips, documenting intake vaccinations, and obtaining photos for identification purposes.
  • Clerical and Basic Accounting Duties: Maintain accurate records and databases, process payments, and assist with reconciliation of cash, check, and credit transactions.
  • Assist in Other Areas of Animal Shelter Operations: Perform tasks such as cleaning kennels, maintenance, and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of general office experience required.
  • Experience and comfortability with animals required.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience in handling animals in an animal shelter, boarding, or veterinary setting.
  • Previous experience dispatching.
