Job Summary

The University of Texas Permian Basin's Athletics Department is seeking a highly qualified Defensive Line Assistant Coach to join our team. As a key member of our coaching staff, you will be responsible for assisting with the management of our competitive NCAA Division II athletic program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with conditioning, practices, recruiting, travel arrangements, and student managers.
  • Promote the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, adhering to all Departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of UTPB, the NCAA, Lone Star Conference, and The University of Texas System.
  • Plan and execute a successful program, including conducting regular team practice sessions, coaching student-athletes, evaluating their performance, monitoring their conditioning and training, and advising and counseling them regarding their obligations to comply with all rules and regulations related to financial aid and eligibility, as well as personal conduct and appearance.
  • Work with the Head Coach to coordinate team academics and represent the program during practices and games in the absence of the Head Coach.
  • Arrange recruiting functions, including off- and on-campus visits, evaluations, and contacts, and document all activities as required per NCAA rules.
  • Participate in public relations activities, as approved, including granting interviews with media and coordinating fundraising activities.
  • Ensure that necessary athletic equipment is available and in proper condition for scheduled practices and competition, and make recommendations for repairs or replacement as necessary.
  • Participate in clinics, exhibitions, and camps, as approved, and attend coaches' preparatory meetings to implement strategies resulting from these meetings.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including scheduling, travel arrangements, budget preparation and monitoring, and maintaining statistics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to the recruitment and retention of student-athletes
  • Unencumbered driver's license and ability to travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior coaching experience or a minimum of two (2) years working in a campus or athletic environment or as a collegiate athlete
