We are seeking a highly qualified Biology Adjunct Instructor to join our faculty team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As an Adjunct Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching Biology courses and contributing to the academic success of our students.
Key Responsibilities- Teaching: Create a learning environment that facilitates students' acquisition of knowledge and skills in Biology. This includes instructional design, delivery, effectiveness, and expertise.
- Scholarly and Creative Engagement: Engage in scholarly and/or creative activity, which may include conference attendance and presentation, participation in professional organizations, academic coursework, scholarly research and publications, and grant activity.
- Institutional Responsibility: Perform assigned or presumed duties according to one's role at the college. These activities support and advance both the mission of the VCCS and the college to enhance the effective functioning of the college.
- Service: Quality participation and commitment to students, college and/or community organizations, which is an expectation of one's activities as a professional educator.
- Minimum of a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate semester hours in Biology.
- Teaching experience.
- Ability to design and implement curriculums that align elements of student learning to the student's educational goals.
- Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies to accommodate traditional and non-traditional students with diverse backgrounds and varied academic competencies.
- Ability to use formative and summative assessment measures to evaluate and enhance student learning.
- Knowledge of and proven skill with teaching strategies that promote student success.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, for group presentations or one-on-one settings.
- Commitment to stay current and continually improve knowledge and understanding of the teaching discipline.
- Full-time teaching experience.
- Community college teaching experience.
- Knowledge of, and experience with, alternative delivery methods to include online delivery, hybrid and hyflex course options, content software, web-enhancements, etc.
