Position Overview

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Case Western Reserve University is seeking applications for a full-time instructor role in Chinese language education. This position is a non-tenured, one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal based on the Dean's office approval.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a variety of Chinese language courses at different proficiency levels. The teaching load consists of three courses per semester, which may include up to three different preparations. Engagement in departmental cultural events is also expected.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess an MA in Chinese, Chinese pedagogy, second language acquisition, or a related field by the specified deadline. Candidates with a doctoral degree in the relevant disciplines are highly preferred. A minimum of three years of full-time college-level Mandarin teaching experience in North America is required, along with native or near-native proficiency in both Mandarin and English.

Demonstrated excellence in Mandarin instruction across all levels, familiarity with ACTFL proficiency standards, and experience with performance-based teaching methodologies are essential. Candidates must be capable of teaching both traditional and simplified Chinese characters and possess knowledge of cultural contexts related to both China and Taiwan.
