Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Painter-Refinisher to join our team at the Architect of the Capitol. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the Capitol Building's interior surfaces are beautifully painted and refinished.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply paints and coatings to interior surfaces, including doors, door frames, and woodwork, using accepted methods and techniques.
  • Plan and execute painting and refinishing projects, selecting materials and tools as needed.
  • Assist with historic color matching, complex striping, and design work.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting, including filling, shaping, and leveling with metal and synthetic resins.
  • Remove fixtures, protect floors and furnishings, and prep surfaces for painting and special effects.
  • Mix and apply paints, stains, and other products, and fill cracks and holes with caulk or putty.
  • Use tape, cement, and special perforated tape to create smooth and even surfaces.
  • Assist with maintaining, repairing, and constructing plaster surfaces in historically significant buildings.
  • Use resins and plastic compounds to prepare doors, baseboards, floors, and interior trim.
  • Level out dents and glaze surfaces with pre-coating agents.
Requirements:
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of painting and refinishing techniques, including historic color matching.
  • Ability to read and apply directions for pre-coating agents, resins, compounds, and coating materials.
  • Experience with painting tools and equipment, including brushes, rollers, spray guns, and viscosity testers.
  • Ability to use a computer to update work-order control systems and complete time and attendance records.
Working Conditions:

This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work at heights using scaffolding and ladders. The position also requires working in a team environment and communicating effectively with colleagues.
