Job Overview

The Tree Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in the upkeep and management of trees, utilizing specialized equipment such as bucket trucks to perform essential tasks. Candidates must possess prior experience operating such machinery and hold a valid driver's license, as a driver's permit will not suffice for this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to and promote safety protocols and regulations at all times.
  • Assist in the preparation of vehicles and materials as directed by the General Foreperson.
  • Execute professional tree care activities as instructed by the General Foreperson.
  • Trim and clear trees and brush from utility lines; safely remove branches and other tree debris.
  • Ensure proper cleanup and disposal of all waste materials.
  • Maintain and inventory all tools and equipment utilized in daily operations.
  • Continuously practice and enhance climbing and tree maintenance skills to improve professional expertise.
  • Be prepared to support fellow team members in all daily tasks.
  • Protect colleagues and the public from hazards by enforcing safe work practices, maintaining a tidy work environment, and communicating effectively with team members.
  • Perform additional duties related to storm response as required.

Experience Requirements

Preferred candidates will have experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military sectors; prior experience with aerial lifts is also advantageous.

Educational Background

A high school diploma or equivalent education is preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in knots, ropes, and rigging devices used in tree trimming and removal.
  • Capability to identify various tree species.
  • Familiarity with electrical hazards and safe operating procedures when working near electrical lines.
  • Ability to work at significant heights in diverse and challenging weather conditions.
  • Physical strength, agility, good balance, and depth perception are essential, along with the ability to hear instructions from a distance.
  • Must obtain and maintain first-aid and CPR certifications.
  • Ability to implement emergency rescue techniques, including tree rescue and applicable first aid measures.
  • Quickly remove oneself from potential danger zones when necessary.
  • Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Availability for out-of-town travel for storm restoration work as needed.
